Understanding the characteristics and ability of Sydney ATC operated radar in 1981 will allow the generation of defensible areas of interest as to where VH-MDX may rest.

Equally important is to gain an appreciation of the structure within Sydney Air Traffic Services to truly understand the dynamics behind how the radar was used, why certain decisions were made and what outcomes were concluded.

Glenn Strkalj covers topics such as the radar fixes made, equipment tolerances, radar head positions, and radio propagation analysis. The aim of this paper is to secure as much base knowledge as possible for future use.

Many thanks go to the numerousĀ Air Traffic Controllers and Radio Technical Officers that assisted in providing information and understanding to the author.

This document provides solid information and data to conduct flight path analysis with.

The current version is somewhat outdated when considering current research findings but is still a paper that offers solid content.
